Masdar’s Solar Research Is Growing

22 March 2015 | Posted by Zachary

Masdar is known for many things, including Masdar City, its investment in large renewable energy projects, and the massive World Future Energy Summit, Zayed Future Energy Prize, and Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. Something that doesn't get as much attention but is massive in its own way is Masdar Institute's

During this year's Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, I sat down the with director of Masdar Institute's solar research, Dr. Steve Griffiths, to talk about what's new and hot there. Here's the video:

In case you weren't up for watching (or weren't able to watch), the highlights were as follows:

Masdar just recently launched a "solar hub." At the hub, they are doing research and testing on concentrated solar power, solar thermal storage (using sand), and solar PV technology (with partner TUV Rheinland and ABB). It has also been working on renewable energy assessment mapping. Also discussed was the new Abu Dhabi Solar Challenge and "concentrated solar power on demand."

Fun stuff.
