The Festival at Masdar City Showcases Benefits of a Walkable, Green City

24 May 2015 | Posted by Zachary

While in the UAE for Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week this year, I got to spend a day enjoying "The Festival" at Masdar City. Masdar City is a wonderful, budding, walkable development in Abu Dhabi.

Still at an early phase, there aren't nearly as many residents and businesses there as are expected in the future. However, signs of what a mature version of the city will look like are already clear. Furthermore, a festival (called "The Festival") held in Masdar City every January give a strong taste of the future, and it is a nice one.

In the video below, you can see Masdar City come alive with playing children (the best part), street life, small businesses, food, and more. The city is made to be walkable, and made to be one where street life is not just good, but superb. This boosts overall quality of life greatly, but it is something many of us don't realize we're lacking until we experience something like The Festival.

Until you have the opportunity yourself, enjoy this video montage of my time at The Festival in January 2015:
